Job description

About the Opportunity

London Drugs, a well-established Canadian retail company headquartered in Richmond, BC, is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to manage payroll operations across a large, multi-location workforce. The role is integral in leading payroll processing, ensuring full compliance with Canadian regulations, and supporting continuous improvements and modernization—especially surrounding their Workday payroll system. This position collaborates tightly with teams across HR, Finance, Benefits, Operations, and IT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of end-to-end payroll processing for bi-weekly cycles, ensuring precise and compliant payroll for London Drugs and subsidiaries.
  • Authorize payroll transactions, verify payroll funding activities, and coordinate electronic funds transfers.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, implementing payroll updates as required.
  • Handle payroll-related general ledger reconciliations, manage CRA source deduction reconciliations, and support T4 preparation, annual balancing, and reporting.
  • Approve payroll journal entries, third-party remittances, and ensure the accuracy of payroll accounting.
  • Mentor, train, and lead the payroll team, addressing complex payroll queries.
  • Contribute to process improvements, system enhancements, and company-wide payroll-related initiatives.
  • Provide detailed payroll reporting, assist with budget processes, and forecast payroll expenses.

Candidate Profile

  • Brings a track record of successful leadership in complex, high-volume Canadian payroll functions, ideally with supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
  • Possesses strong technical skills and thorough knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, accounting, taxation, and compliance procedures.
  • Experienced with major payroll systems such as Workday, PeopleSoft, Kronos, ADP, or Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Holds a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation; a Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in payroll reconciliation, reporting, auditing, and error resolution skills.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and able to consistently meet tight deadlines and shifting priorities.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, onsite position scheduled Monday through Friday, with occasional need for overtime or weekend work to meet business needs.

Benefits & Opportunities

  • Comprehensive insurance including medical, dental, prescription, and vision for employees and families.
  • Access to an employee discount program and a formal employee recognition scheme.
  • Company-matched RRSP program for retirement savings.
  • Ongoing training, development, and opportunities for internal advancement.
  • Access to an Employee Family Assistance Program and avenues for community involvement.

Additional Information

  • London Drugs is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and offers accommodations throughout the recruitment process upon request.
  • Employment offers are not extended via third-party recruiters—applicants should be wary of unsolicited offers or requests for sensitive information.
  • All employment information provided may be used in the assessment and management of employment relationships.
