Role Overview
Joining our People Operations team, you will take charge of complete payroll processing, focusing extensively on California employees due to its complex labor regulations. You will mostly work with UKG systems to ensure precise and timely payroll disbursements alongside benefits administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct semi-monthly payroll processing via UKG Pro and Workforce Management, ensuring adherence to state wage laws.
- Audit payroll data prior to each pay cycle to identify and resolve inaccuracies.
- Respond swiftly to employee payroll queries and resolve related concerns.
- Accurately handle payroll-related issues involving taxes, garnishments, and system configurations.
- Assist managers with payroll inquiries including timecard reviews, approvals, and UKG timekeeping troubleshooting.
- Manage employee benefits administration tasks such as enrollments, terminations, life events, and coordinating with carriers.
- Maintain precise employee payroll records including pay rates, deductions, and tax info in UKG.
- Support year-end payroll processes like W-2 preparation, commission letter management, and reconciliation.
- Administer 401(k) plans, performing regular analyses, reconciliations, and ensuring compliance.
- Fulfill various ad-hoc duties aligned with company needs.
Milestones in the First Year
- Within 30 days: Complete UKG onboarding and execute a supervised full payroll cycle with accuracy for all employee types.
- Within 60 days: Process payroll with limited guidance, correctly applying California-specific laws and proactively flagging issues.
- Within 90 days: Independently manage end-to-end payroll and compliance without escalation.
- By one year: Establish a consistent record of punctual, accurate payrolls, contribute to process enhancements, and act as a go-to resource for CA payroll inquiries.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 2 years of practical payroll experience including full-cycle payroll runs.
- Experienced using UKG Pro, UltiPro, Kronos or similar HRIS/payroll systems.
- Knowledgeable in California payroll law such as overtime, meal/rest break premiums, and final pay.
- Familiarity with federal payroll regulations including FLSA, tax compliance, and W-2 reporting.
- Skilled in Excel or Google Sheets for conducting payroll audits and data reconciliation.
- High attention to detail with the capacity to identify and correct payroll inconsistencies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude with a persistent approach to resolving issues.
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Multi-state payroll processing experience is advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
