Overview

Laverty Pathology, operating under Healius, invites applications for a permanent full-time Pathology Collector based in West Wallsend, New South Wales. This role is integral to the healthcare journey, providing high-quality specimen collection and creating a comforting patient experience. You will play a key part in supporting accurate diagnostic processes by collecting blood and other samples carefully and efficiently.

Work Schedule

  • Week 1: Monday to Thursday 07:00–15:00, Friday 07:00–10:00
  • Week 2: Monday to Friday 07:00–15:00, Saturday 07:00–12:00

Responsibilities

  • Perform precise and attentive collection of blood and various biological specimens
  • Deliver a professional, welcoming, and calm environment to patients
  • Prepare and package specimens correctly for transport following procedural guidelines
  • Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with collection protocols
  • Contribute to the smooth daily operation of the collection site

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Desirable but not mandatory: prior experience in pathology collection or relevant certification (Certificate III in Pathology Collection)
  • Backgrounds in healthcare (aged care, disability support, nursing) or strong customer service experience are valued
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Evidence of immunisation including Hepatitis B is required
  • Strong empathy and professionalism with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to follow processes with accuracy, prioritize tasks, and work autonomously as well as collaboratively
  • Sound judgment, adaptability, initiative, and commitment to learning

Training

A paid training program lasting six weeks is provided, focusing on developing essential pathology collection skills. Initially, full-time hours are required for two weeks, followed by a minimum of 25 hours per week. Training takes place internally via the Healius Academy and may be expedited based on previous experience.
