Role Overview
Join His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service as an Operational Support Grade (OSG) at HMP Grendon and HMP Springhill. In this role, you will contribute significantly to the smooth functioning of day-to-day prison activities. Your duties will range from supervising gate security, conducting searches, managing deliveries, overseeing visitors, to monitoring phone calls and CCTV footage. This diverse position blends desk-based tasks with physical activities such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across prison grounds.
Candidate Profile
No formal qualifications are required. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. You must demonstrate sound judgement, common sense, and a collaborative attitude, as teamwork is essential in this fast-paced environment. You will work varying shifts including nights and weekends to maintain operational continuity.
Driving is a crucial part of this role; therefore, candidates need to hold a valid, full UK driving license.
Unique Aspects and Career Progression
While contact with prisoners is limited compared to prison officers, occasional interactions may arise depending on the facility. The position offers valuable insight into prison operations and can serve as a stepping stone toward other prison roles, including eligibility for the OSG to Prison Officer conversion scheme.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary is £29,432. Additional benefits include:
