Position Overview

This role entails executing comprehensive warehouse operations either within a significant section of a large warehouse or acting as the primary materials handler in a smaller facility. The position involves managing reception, storage, assembly, and shipment preparation for various supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a broad range of warehouse activities including receiving, storing, and assembling items for shipment and distribution.
Process inbound shipments by unloading, verifying documentation against packing labels, and reporting discrepancies such as overages, shorts, or damage following standard procedures.
Organize and prepare shipments in the loading zone based on shipping requests, ensuring proper condition and loading of shipping containers.
Optimize shipment loading sequences to maximize space utilization, maintain safety, and protect items from damage.
Design storage layouts by defining item locations and structuring stock organization for efficient access.
Conduct inventory counts, maintain tally records, and investigate discrepancies through recounts or location searches.
Operate material handling equipment including forklifts with capacities up to 15,000 pounds, warehouse tractors, and general-purpose vehicles.
Handle packing and repacking of various items using multiple standard packing materials and techniques.

Employment Conditions and Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
Position requires a fixed work schedule with no bargaining unit status.
Security classification is Non-Sensitive; appointment requires passing a suitability or fitness determination.
Compliance with Selective Service registration is mandatory for males born after December 31, 1959.
REAL ID or equivalent identification documents are required to access certain federal facilities.
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license and all necessary state and governmental licenses.
Appointment is subject to a pre-employment physical examination.
This position is mission essential, requiring work during emergencies at designated or alternate duty locations, including telework sites.
Tour length overseas is typically 36 months under an Overseas Rotation Agreement.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants will be evaluated according to the Office of Personnel Management's Qualification Standards for Trades and Labor Occupations. Specific time requirements are not defined, but candidates must meet screened-out criteria and demonstrate the relevant knowledge and skills through experience or training. Paid and unpaid (including volunteer) experience is considered. Physical demands include regular lifting of materials up to 40 pounds and operation of forklifts, often requiring moderate physical effort and working in various warehouse environments.

Working Environment

Work occurs indoors and outdoors in warehouses constructed from wood, concrete, and other materials, sometimes in less-than-ideal conditions such as temperature extremes, poor lighting, dust, or moisture. Protective clothing such as hard hats, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and masks may be required. Employees may be exposed to safety hazards including cuts, bruises, falls, and equipment-related injuries.

PCS (Permanent Change of Station) moves are authorized; LQA (Living Quarters Allowance) is not authorized.

The position is subject to DLA's policies concerning a drug-free workplace, with required pre-employment and random drug testing.
The location is relatively remote, with the closest military community approximately 100 kilometers away.
