Job Overview
The Material Handler plays a vital role in maintaining efficient production flow by ensuring proper management of work-in-progress inventory, accurate placement of components, and adherence to production schedules on the shop floor. This position supports continuous production, visual controls, and the principles of single piece flow to guarantee that operators receive materials timely and in the correct locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain standard work-in-progress (STD WIP) levels throughout the production line to enable balanced flow and continuous operation.
- Ensure correct placement and upkeep of components at designated areas on the shop floor.
- Facilitate single piece flow across the line, minimizing excess inventory and promoting smooth material movement.
- Monitor piece movement after takt time completion to support timely transitions between workstations.
- Oversee material flow and line conditions to preserve production readiness and workflow continuity.
- Identify and report cycle times that exceed takt times to address issues affecting line performance.
- Support and ensure compliance with Standard Work and Standard Work Combination Sheets across the production line.
- Maintain comprehensive understanding of the entire line process to coordinate proper material movements and operator support.
- Collaborate with operations personnel and supervisors to guarantee material availability at correct workstations when needed.
- Enhance visual management and workplace organization, supporting process transparency and efficiency.
- Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized following 5S methodology.
- Apply Lean manufacturing principles consistently in daily activities to drive operational excellence.
- Spot and communicate continuous improvement opportunities regarding flow, cycle times, waste reduction, and workspace arrangement.
- Assist in problem-solving efforts and corrective measures concerning material handling disruptions and WIP control.
- Operate within takt time and follow standard process flows to meet production targets.
- Utilize shop floor software tools such as ELM, SmartShop, and MyAndon to monitor and manage workflows.
- Adhere to company quality, safety protocols, procedures, and required standard work processes.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma, technical college certificate, or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments, material handling, production support, or industrial operations.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- At least three years of experience in Weld Repair or CNC Machining.
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience managing personnel.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing tools, 5S principles, visual management, and continuous improvement methodology.
- Proficiency in recognizing abnormalities in processes and escalating issues properly.
- Experience using shop floor systems including ELM, SmartShop, and MyAndon.
- Minimum two years of experience working with gas turbine parts or other precise aerospace/industrial components.
