Role Overview
This position is to lead the engineering team responsible for the cloud infrastructure supporting a critical SaaS platform. Based in New Zealand and operating fully remotely, this role blends technical leadership, cloud expertise, and team management to develop systems that are reliable, scalable, and secure. The position requires navigation of complex infrastructure challenges to enable efficient and safe software delivery at scale, while fostering innovation in cloud architecture, automation, and AI integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of engineers managing production cloud infrastructure and cultivate a robust engineering culture.
- Oversee design, deployment, and continuous development of Kubernetes-centric, multi-cloud environments.
- Ensure infrastructure solutions adhere to high standards of reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate closely with product, security, support, and senior engineering teams to promote safe and effective software releases.
- Enhance automation, developer tooling, and platform capabilities to support scalable growth while minimizing complexity.
- Implement responsible AI strategies within infrastructure operations, including automation and incident handling.
- Balance urgent operational demands with long-term strategic platform growth and innovation.
- Coach engineers for professional development, manage priorities, and nurture a high-performing team environment.
- Drive continuous improvement in observability, incident management, and infrastructure governance.
Candidate Requirements
- 3-5 years experience leading teams that build and operate production infrastructure for SaaS.
- Strong technical expertise in cloud/platform engineering, SRE, or related disciplines.
- Proficient with Kubernetes production environments including scaling and lifecycle management.
- Experience with multiple cloud providers and multi-cloud operational complexities.
- Track record of collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deploy significant infrastructure enhancements.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities including coaching, performance evaluation, and team building.
- Experience enhancing infrastructure reliability, automation, security, and scalability.
- Understanding of AI applications in infrastructure engineering with sound judgment for responsible adoption.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, policy-as-code, platform automation, and cloud cost management is advantageous.
- Exposure to managing global or multi-region SaaS infrastructure is a plus.
