Librarian

Position Overview

The Discovery School seeks a Librarian for a full-time, 10-month position aligned with the school year calendar, including teacher work weeks and professional development sessions. Reporting to the Director of Curriculum and Learning and Head of School, the librarian will play a vital role supporting both Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) educational methodologies while addressing student individuality within the school's mission and vision.

Core Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain expertise in Montessori and IB curriculum frameworks alongside children’s literature and information literacy.
• Lead resource management including curating a diverse and inclusive library collection, managing an automated catalog and circulation system, and administering library policies and procedures efficiently.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate library and research skills into curriculum units, enabling critical thinking and digital citizenship among students.
• Deliver group and individual library instruction from Toddlers through Elementary levels and teach at least one Middle School Elective.
• Promote reading and library engagement via storytelling, book talks, displays, and special events, creating a welcoming and vibrant library environment.
• Ensure student safety, support school culture, and monitor digital activities to maintain compliance with technology use policies.
• Participate actively in professional growth, school events, admissions support, and collaborative curriculum development.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master's in Education is advantageous.
• Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred, with familiarity in IB or progressive education.
• Strong technology proficiency, especially with Mac systems and educational digital tools.
• Excellent communication abilities, both oral and written, to foster collaboration within the school community.

Work Conditions and Schedule

• Position requires time at a desk and computer as well as physical activities including standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
• Normal school hours are Monday to Friday from 7:40 AM to 4:00 PM during sessions, with additional hours when necessary.

• Compensation is competitive and contingent on experience.
