Position Summary
The Learning Consultant is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, facilitating, and assessing general and specialty-specific educational programs to enhance clinical skills and knowledge among healthcare team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessments and develop Education Action Plans to improve clinical and educational competence across the organization.
- Deliver both general and specialty-specific training to ensure safe, effective, and competent practice among team members.
- Provide ongoing preceptor development and specialized training programs for Learning Specialist roles.
- Collaborate with Learning Specialists to design and administer standardized Annual Competency Review assessments for licensed and non-licensed clinical staff.
- Create test questions for the Annual Competency Review online database applying sound test construction principles and assemble unit-specific assessments.
- Develop and facilitate educational programs integrating adult learning theories, in partnership with Learning Specialists and unit leadership.
- Participate actively in quality and safety initiatives to support practice improvement aligned with organizational standards.
- Encourage team member engagement in professional growth and organizational involvement.
- Demonstrate accountability through participation in professional organizations and contribute to clinical evaluations.
- Assist in recruitment activities including selection, evaluation, and hiring of team members.
- Provide educational materials and curricula to ensure knowledge retention and compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.
- Effectively communicate ideas verbally and in writing to individuals and groups.
- Embrace and advocate for change within the organization.
- Deliver formal educational presentations and serve as a preceptor for new Learning Consultants as well as support precepting for Learning Specialist I and II roles.
- Engage in committees and initiatives that align with strategic organizational goals.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance role effectiveness.
- Create and foster opportunities for developing critical thinking and reasoning skills among staff.
- Utilize assessments and critical thinking skills to design tailored education development plans.
- Apply knowledge of research methods and evidence-based practice guidelines to address learning needs.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance adhering to Orlando Health policies and comply with state and federal standards including ADA and FMLA.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Additional Duties
- Understand and apply legal, patient rights, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Act as liaison and consultant across department committees on educational matters.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Education, or related field required.
- Current Registered Nurse license in Florida mandatory.
- Valid BLS/Healthcare Provider certification required.
- National specialty certification such as Nursing Professional Development or Certified Nurse Educator, or relevant clinical certification is required except where unavailable.
- Minimum of five years acute care hospital clinical experience including at least three years in a specialty area.
- At least one year experience in an educational role.
