Job description
Position Overview
The role requires the ability to fulfill essential kitchen staff duties as needed within Opaa! Food Management, which operates across multiple states. Compensation varies by location and position and will be discussed during the hiring process.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with daily setup of serving lines ensuring proper food temperature maintenance; prepare milk coolers for service.
- Support food preparation following menu plans and standardized recipes, including advance preparation for upcoming menus.
- Operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, and grinders provided appropriate certification is obtained.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dining areas including dishwashing equipment and utensils.
- Organize inventory stock utilizing FIFO methods and keep storage areas clean.
- Manage kitchen requisitions for food and supplies through the Kitchen Manager.
- Prepare baked goods like bread, cakes, and cookies per menu requirements and ensure appealing presentation.
- Conduct batch cooking to maintain product quality and attractive food presentation.
- Set up serving and bar lines, ensuring adequate stock and correct food temperatures throughout service.
- Serve customers with proper portion sizes and utensils, maintaining high standards of hospitality and food quality.
Compliance and Safety
- Prepare meals strictly according to menu plans and company recipes ensuring consistency and quality.
- Recognize reimbursable meals and adhere to meal pattern regulations (HHFKA and CACFP).
- Maintain accurate daily production records categorized by grade groups.
- Follow HACCP food safety protocols, including documenting food temperatures and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly logs.
- Adhere to company safety guidelines and promptly report unsafe conditions.
- Participate in safety programs, meetings, and required annual training to uphold operational standards.

- Comply with company timekeeping policies diligently.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage cash transactions during service times, including making change and operating POS systems ensuring compliance with reimbursable meal requirements.
- Complete daily paperwork including tray counts and meal reconciliation.
- Record working hours accurately via company timekeeping systems and report absences with appropriate notice.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Tasks frequently require physical activities such as standing, walking, sitting, squatting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, tasting, smelling, speaking, hearing, and arm reaching.
- Must occasionally exert force over 60 pounds and regularly lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Essential vision abilities include focusing, depth perception, and color recognition.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or GED preferred; or equivalent experience or training of up to one month.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and effectively communicate in small group or individual settings.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and interpreting graphical data.
- Problem-solving skills suitable for routine, straightforward tasks.
- Experience with kitchen machines and software including dishwashers, ovens, mixers, slicers, meal counting software, and standard office equipment.
