About the Role
The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is committed to fostering a healthy environment for Montana's prosperity. We are seeking an IT Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology Bureau (ITB). This full-time position is located in Helena, Montana and primarily requires onsite attendance with limited telework eligibility of one day per week, subject to supervisor approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to users across various devices including laptops, mobile devices, servers, and other technology assets.
- Record and document technical issues, user requests, and their solutions.
- Manage installation, imaging, updates, maintenance, and decommissioning of desktops, servers, and mobile hardware and software.
- Install and maintain peripherals such as copiers, printers, scanners and their drivers.
- Liaise with vendors to address and resolve hardware and software problems.
- Configure hardware and software in compliance with state, DEQ, and vendor standards.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Microsoft Group Policy and associated IT systems.
- Provision, manage, and troubleshoot mobile devices.
- Deliver technical assistance to users with varying technical proficiency levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and fostering positive working relationships.
- Proven ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and changing methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with hardware including laptops, desktops, servers, printers, and mobile devices supported by the agency.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Windows OS, Group Policy, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Preferred experience with tools such as Tanium, Microsoft Server, PowerShell, and security software.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent vocational training or college coursework relevant to the job.
- Minimum two years’ experience delivering PC support within a Windows environment.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered individually.
Additional Information
The position includes a career progression ladder supporting professional growth and compensation advancement. Employees may occasionally travel up to 10% of the time. Telework is permitted on a limited basis with supervisor approval but full-time telework is unavailable. Benefits include health insurance, paid leave, holidays, and retirement plans. The role is classified as a regular, full-time, day shift position.
