Job Overview
This position involves managing and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high availability, performance, and robust design in a public-facing web environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design databases that are scalable, reliable, and meet application needs along with collaborating with DBA colleagues to fulfill performance targets.
- Engage in planning sessions, create documentation, and participate in testing activities.
- Optimize stored procedures and oversee rollback and disaster recovery processes.
- Maintain exceptional database uptime and contribute towards establishing a long-term data warehouse solution based on SQL Server 2016 Enterprise Edition.
- Monitor database performance continuously, applying patches and upgrades as needed, while using various monitoring tools to assess database, compute, storage, and network operations.
- Implement and advocate for process improvements that address throughput, processing times, resource usage, and operational capacity.
- Have a solid understanding of big data manipulation techniques, and utilize effective backup and high-speed transaction recovery methods.
- Diagnose and resolve database errors promptly and create comprehensive reports, visualizations, and dashboards related to database management.
- Stay vigilant by recommending and applying new database technologies and techniques aligned with industry standards.
- Participate actively in resolving complex issues, including out-of-hours support as required.
- Demonstrate initiative in learning and applying new skills that enhance product and system performance, incorporating best practices in tools, processes, and technologies.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing by mentoring, coaching junior team members, and ensuring smooth knowledge transfer to improve team capabilities.
- Maintain a positive and proactive mindset that encourages motivation and collaboration within the team.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Computer Science or National Diploma in Information Technology.
- Strong proficiency in time management and communication skills.
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience working with Microsoft SQL Server environments with deep expertise in all aspects of MSSQL.
- Advanced abilities in SQL query writing and optimization.
- Experience with maintaining high database availability.
Additional Preferences
- Certification as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate is considered a plus.
