Role Overview
The Human Resources Specialist at DSI plays a critical role in supporting staff and management across multiple sites. This position requires a proficient HR professional experienced in employee relations, benefits administration, compliance, and interpreting policies. The role demands independent management of delicate employee matters, navigating complex HR scenarios while ensuring compliance with employment laws. As a trusted advisor, the HR Specialist supports both employees and leadership, promoting a positive and law-abiding workplace atmosphere. Ideal candidates will have 3 to 5 years of focused HR experience, eager to make valuable contributions in a dynamic, service-centric environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main HR point of contact for employees and managers, advising on policies, procedures, and employment issues.
- Collaborate with managers on employee relations matters, performance issues, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution.
- Manage employee benefits programs, addressing inquiries and assisting with enrollment.
- Oversee leave administration including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other protected leaves.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
- Carry out investigations related to employee complaints, workplace issues, and policy breaches.
- Support recruitment activities, onboarding, and new hire orientations.
- Maintain confidential and accurate HR records and documentation.
- Create and distribute communications about benefits, policies, compliance, and HR initiatives.
- Engage in employee engagement efforts, process enhancements, and special HR projects.
- Prepare HR reports and assist with audits, compliance checks, and departmental initiatives.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of professional HR experience with primary responsibility in human resources functions.
- Background in supporting employee relations including policy guidance, issue resolution, and performance management discussions.
- Experience with benefits administration.
- Solid understanding of federal and state employment laws such as FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and EEO compliance.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Capacity to uphold confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience with multi-location or geographically dispersed workforces is advantageous.
- Background in fast-paced service environment is beneficial.
