Position Overview
The Human Resources Compliance Manager at Mitchell Martin Inc. is tasked with overseeing the company's employment compliance across nearly 40 states and various local areas. Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer and functioning as an individual contributor, this role demands vigilance in tracking legislative changes, conducting consistent audit reviews, and coordinating efforts that ensure adherence to all employment-related regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor updates in federal, state, and local employment laws impacting workforce and operations.
- Interpret and communicate changes to employment policies, systems, payroll, and communications to maintain compliance.
- Organize and sustain a detailed compliance tracking system spanning multiple jurisdictions.
- Develop and implement regular audit programs covering diverse compliance areas like paid leave, wage laws, employee classifications, record retention, and payroll accuracy.
- Identify risks through audit findings and recommend actionable corrective measures while keeping thorough documentation.
- Maintain a comprehensive HR compliance calendar capturing all mandatory deadlines, reports, and trainings, coordinating data gathering and submission as required.
- Provide continuous updates to leadership regarding compliance status, emerging risks, and remediation progress.
- Facilitate compliance-related training initiatives, collaborate on training content, and ensure proper tracking of participation and completion.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend tools and resources to enhance compliance programs and lead cross-departmental compliance projects involving various business functions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in HR, employment compliance, payroll compliance, or related fields, with exposure to multi-state workforce environments.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local employment requirements including wage laws, leave regulations, I-9 compliance, employee classifications, record-keeping, pay transparency, and employment reporting.
- Proven ability to conduct comprehensive audits and manage corrective actions.
- Strong project management competencies enabling coordination among multiple stakeholders and deadlines without direct authority.
- Familiarity with HRIS, payroll systems, learning management, compliance tracking, or document management systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and related software.
- Preferred certifications include SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or relevant compliance credentials.
- Experience in regulated environments such as staffing or professional services is advantageous.
