Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Hull Foreman/Supervisor/Marker to be the primary on-site quality monitor for our shipyard operations. This role is essential in ensuring all subcontractor tasks meet Penguin International Limited's standards for quality, tolerance, and schedule before advancing to the next stage of vessel construction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the representative for the shipyard on the production floor, guaranteeing subcontractor work aligns with approved designs, specifications, and quality benchmarks.
  • Supervise and inspect the aluminium hull fabrication, including fit-up, welding, and assembly conducted by subcontractors.
  • Perform frequent quality checks to identify issues such as workmanship errors, deviations in dimensions, misalignments, or any departures from approved drawings.
  • Validate that all structural elements including hull panels, bulkheads, foundations, and components conform to required tolerances.
  • Liaise closely with Engineering, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and Production teams to address technical and quality concerns.
  • Ensure subcontractors adhere strictly to approved construction procedures, welding protocols, and shipyard standards.
  • Attend critical inspections, including fit-up, alignment verifications, and pressure tests as necessary.
  • Document and report non-conformance via NCRs and oversee corrective measures until resolved.
  • Regularly provide feedback to subcontractor supervisors regarding workmanship quality and operational productivity.
  • Track work progress and alert relevant parties to risks that could affect vessel quality, timeline, or cost.
  • Help maintain accurate construction records, inspection documentation, and photo evidence of work stages.
  • Assist with vessel launching, sea trial preparations, and final delivery inspections as needed.
  • Promote and maintain a culture focused on quality, ensuring defects are detected and addressed promptly at the earliest construction phases.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

  • Between 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in aluminium vessel construction, preferably with high-speed crafts, patrol boats, ferries, or workboats.
  • In-depth understanding of aluminium hull fabrication processes, fit-up, welding, and structural assembly techniques.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting structural and fabrication drawings including hull layouts and sectional details.
  • Well-versed in shipbuilding quality standards, tolerances, and inspection procedures.
  • Skilled in precision measuring and marking using tapes, levels, squares, and other instruments with acute attention to tolerances.
  • Basic knowledge of hull structures, shipbuilding workflows, and safety standards applicable to high-speed vessels.
  • Strong communication abilities and aptitude for collaborative work with production teams including supervisors, welders, and fitters.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding duties such as prolonged standing and operating in outdoor or production workshop environments.
  • Vocational or technical credentials in marine engineering, shipbuilding, fabrication, or similar disciplines are advantageous.
  • Committed to following safety rules, company protocols, and open to learning and adapting to internal standards and practices.
