Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Housekeeping Aide based at Squamish Hospital in Squamish, BC, supporting Hilltop House. The Housekeeping Aide helps maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diverse cleaning tasks, including damp dusting, wet and dry mopping, and floor maintenance using specialized equipment.
• Clean and disinfect ceilings, walls, vents, washrooms, beds, furniture, and medical equipment.
• Manage collection and disposal of regular and biomedical waste, respond to spill clean-ups, and assist with bed-making.
• Ensure all cleaning activities comply with the organization’s policies and standard operating procedures for maintaining facility hygiene.

Environmental Services Context

Environmental Services at VCH involves comprehensive cleaning duties beyond typical janitorial tasks to support infection control and patient safety. The role cooperates closely with infection control and patient care teams to clean clinical and non-clinical areas, including patient rooms, offices, and common spaces. Duties also encompass garbage and recycling removal, soiled linen handling, biohazard waste management, carpet vacuuming, floor polishing, and surface disinfection.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum completion of Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Physical capability to carry out manual cleaning duties.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact positively and effectively with others.
• Strong organizational skills and competency in operating cleaning equipment.

Additional Information

• Work schedules, days off, and work locations may vary based on operational needs in accordance with the Collective Agreement and relevant laws.
• Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review.
• Compliance with Ministry of Health policies for vaccination and communicable disease reporting is mandatory for new hires. This includes submitting vaccination or infection history for appropriate health safety measures.
