Position Overview

We are looking for a full-time Housekeeper to maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the Hamilton Booth Centre’s facilities, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment that complies with health and safety standards. This unionized position works Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm, and is central to supporting the organization's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular and deep cleaning of resident rooms, offices, common areas, kitchens, laundry rooms, hallways, and multi-purpose spaces to maintain hygiene and safety.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and carpets; dust and clean windows, walls, baseboards, lighting fixtures, and furniture.
  • Sanitize frequently touched surfaces and restrooms in line with infection control protocols.
  • Handle linens and bedding by changing, laundering, folding, and storing, utilizing universal precautions.
  • Restock washroom and cleaning supplies, keeping storage spaces and housekeeping carts organized and clean.
  • Prepare rooms for incoming residents by thoroughly cleaning appliances, furnishings, and replacing linens and kitchenware.
  • Dispose of garbage and recycling responsibly to maintain cleanliness and reduce odors.
  • Report maintenance problems, safety risks, and pest concerns to supervisors or maintenance teams promptly.
  • Support exterior upkeep including sweeping walkways, winter salting, plant watering, and litter collection.
  • Assist with furniture movement and room arrangements for meetings or events as directed.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, including WHMIS and infection control, using protective equipment as needed.
  • Maintain laundry machines and cleaning equipment, reporting repairs and performing routine care.
  • Participate in routine inspections, pest monitoring, wellness checks, and cleaning turnover tasks.
  • Keep accurate housekeeping logs and communication reports, attend staff meetings, and engage in ongoing training.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide a clean, safe, and welcoming space for all clients, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work includes both indoor and outdoor tasks, with time standing, lifting (up to 30 lbs), carrying supplies, walking, bending, climbing, and ladder work.
  • Requires regular use of cleaning tools and chemicals, demanding care and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Occasional interaction with individuals exhibiting challenging behavior may be required.
  • The role involves moderate to high concentration when operating equipment.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum completion of Grade 12 education.
  • At least three months of related cleaning experience in an organizational setting.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation

The salary offered for this position ranges from $18.77 per hour, with placement based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications.
