About Educational Alliance

Educational Alliance, established in 1889 as one of New York City's original settlement houses, serves the Lower East Side community with a wide range of educational, social, and cultural programs tailored for diverse populations, emphasizing empowerment and community building through transformative offerings such as free meals for seniors, addiction recovery, early childhood education, and art and cultural events. Rooted in Jewish values, the organization supports the well-being and socio-economic advancement of its participants.

Role Overview

The Graphic Designer will play a key role in manifesting the organization's creative vision by producing high-quality visual materials—both print and digital—that effectively support internal programs and external communications. Working within a small, dynamic Marketing and Communications team, the designer will adhere to brand standards while collaborating across departments to enhance engagement and communication. The role demands the ability to independently juggle multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create compelling print and digital designs for agency programs and events.
  • Design fundraising and donor-related communications.
  • Develop and update lobby slide presentations for various centers.
  • Produce specialized slideshows for events and campaigns.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects using a project management system to meet deadlines.
  • Adapt designs promptly in response to shifting organizational needs and feedback.
  • Optimize all materials for readability and contrast.
  • Develop navigation and wayfinding signage to improve visitor experiences.
  • Ensure all visuals meet accessibility standards and respect inclusive design principles.
  • Maintain and advance the agency's visual branding consistently across centers.
  • Contribute to branding new programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Create and sustain accessible branded templates for use by colleagues.
  • Ensure partner logos are used correctly in compliance with their brand guidelines.
  • Design agendas, schedules, and other informational resources for internal and external audiences.
  • Act as a central resource for brand-related inquiries within the agency.
  • Organize and maintain creative asset libraries and marketing tools.
  • Collaborate closely with Communications and Marketing colleagues to share resources and implement best practices.
  • Prioritize and manage design tasks across multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Supervise summer design interns as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related discipline required.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in print and web design, preferably within nonprofit or campaign contexts.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
  • Understanding of pre-press, printing processes, digital media, photo editing, and video editing techniques.
  • Ability to effectively incorporate feedback from diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities to ensure timely deliverables.
  • Experience with project management platforms such as Asana.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems; HTML knowledge is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and use of emerging design technologies and AI-assisted creative tools.
