About the Role
The Institute for Genomic Health (IGH) and Division for Genomic Medicine (DGM) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai are seeking a dedicated Genetic Counselor to support both research and clinical initiatives. This position is integral to bridging innovative genomic discoveries into direct patient care by offering genetic counseling services for diverse genomic conditions encountered at the DGM Genomic Health Clinic. The counselor will also engage in translational research to enhance genomic medicine applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain informed consent from patients and research participants.
- Review and synthesize medical records relevant to genetic assessments.
- Coordinate study visits and ensure adherence to protocols and regulatory standards.
- Manage and facilitate clinical genetic testing procedures.
- Deliver genetic counseling post-test, providing education and support to patients and their families.
- Create educational materials tailored for patients and healthcare providers.
- Assist with outreach efforts targeting both patients and physicians.
- Participate actively in administrative functions and meetings within the Institute.
- Support the development and implementation of clinical research protocols.
- Maintain comprehensive study documentation and databases.
- Engage in qualitative and health systems research projects.
- Contribute to regulatory submissions including Institutional Review Board applications.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum two years of professional experience in genetic counseling.
- Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling within three years following graduation from a certified Genetic Counseling Program.
- Master of Science in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling from an accredited institution by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
- Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not mandatory.
