About The Role
The American Housing Corporation is dedicated to resolving the housing affordability crisis in America by adopting a fully integrated development approach, encompassing land acquisition, home manufacturing, installation, and direct sales. The company seeks to build at scale to effectively address this challenge.
As the General Manager based in Austin, you will lead the homebuilding operations from land purchase through to profitable home sales. This position commands complete ownership of Austin's operational plans, financial health, scheduling, quality assurance, and risk management. You'll assemble and mentor the local team, ensure seamless coordination among land acquisition, design, production, installation, field construction, and sales to deliver homes efficiently and at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and drive the market operating strategy, overseeing land acquisitions, project commencements, completions, home closings, profit margins, overhead expenses, and capital use.
- Recruit, develop, and retain a skilled team, fostering accountability, a culture of urgency, ownership, and high-quality execution.
- Maintain a robust pipeline covering land availabilities, project permits, production-ready properties, ongoing construction, and inventory for sale to meet market plans.
- Confirm all projects have validated scope, budgets, schedules, and pathways to completion before capital investments and manage execution through all phases including permitting, manufacturing, installation, field construction, and closing.
- Control project costs, profit margins, cash flows, scope adjustments, and capital risks, balancing growth, speed, quality, and risk thoughtfully.
- Integrate the operating system aligning efforts across land, design, manufacture, installation, construction, and sales to ensure factory output matches site readiness, field capabilities, and customer demand.
- Define and implement project stage gates, handoff processes, management routines, systems, and reporting to steadily scale home delivery volume.
- Leverage operational data and field feedback to shorten cycle times, reduce costs and rework, minimize failed inspections, punch list items, and warranty issues while enhancing safety and quality.
- Provide senior leadership and the CEO with accurate forecasts on performance metrics, risks, resource needs, and strategic decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Over 10 years of leadership experience managing complex projects with full responsibility for budgets and schedules across multiple departments; experience in production homebuilding, modular or manufactured housing, or a similar vertically integrated development environment is strongly favored.
- Proven experience leading a market, division, portfolio, or business unit with clear financial and operational accountability.
- In-depth knowledge of residential development and homebuilding processes including land acquisition, underwriting, permitting, preconstruction, construction, and home delivery.
- Demonstrated success in building and leading cross-functional teams with clearly defined shared goals.
- Strong financial skills, including budget and forecasting management, margin protection, and capital allocation expertise.
- Consistent track record of completing projects on schedule, within budget, and meeting quality and return objectives.
- Experience establishing processes, systems, and organizational structures in expanding or fast-changing businesses.
- A focus on production efficiency with preference for standardized, repeatable processes over custom one-off solutions.
- Decisiveness, exceptional organizational skills, and calmness under pressure, capable of functioning effectively from executive leadership to field operations.
- High emotional intelligence and excellent stakeholder management abilities to enforce accountability while nurturing productive partnerships.
- Experience in Austin or Texas homebuilding is advantageous but not mandatory.
