About the Role
This full-time position supports the 4-H Extension program in Henderson County, providing educational leadership and program facilitation under NC State University's Cooperative Extension. The role involves creating and managing 4-H special interest programs such as Sewing, Agricultural Day Camp, Mini Gardening, livestock judging, and cooking with STEM. It requires active volunteer recruitment, training, and support, along with assistance in club administration, school enrichment, and various county, district, and state events.
Responsibilities
- Assist the 4-H Agent in developing and delivering a comprehensive 4-H program in Henderson County.
- Organize, facilitate, and create various 4-H special interest activities and programs.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers to effectively manage 4-H programs.
- Coordinate with advisory committees to identify community and program needs.
- Assist with 4-H club management, school enrichment programs, and local to state-level events.
- Promote 4-H initiatives through newsletters, articles, social media, websites, and other communications.
- Maintain accurate daily records of hours worked and program accomplishments in the reporting system.
- Participate in evening, night, and weekend events as required to support program activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; advanced training in related fields preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations and in volunteer recruitment and training highly desired.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, with youth and adults.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, stand and sit for extended periods, and perform kneeling, stooping, and reaching as needed.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, humidity, and sun.
- Possess valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to support travel within the county and occasional district/state travel.

Additional Information

The position is funded through state and county resources and contingent on continued funding. The work schedule is generally Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM, but includes evenings and weekends to support program needs. This role reports to the County Extension Director and collaborates closely with the 4-H Agent. No supervisory responsibilities are assigned.
