Job description

About the Role

We seek an ERPNext Developer to handle the implementation, customization, and upkeep of the ERPNext platform across multiple modules, including finance, procurement, inventory, manufacturing, HR, and sales. The role involves building tailored applications and DocTypes on the Frappe framework, integrating ERPNext with surrounding systems, and ensuring a stable, secure, and efficient production environment. The ideal candidate will appreciate both coding in Python and JavaScript and collaborating directly with business users like accountants and warehouse supervisors to streamline processes. Being part of a small IT team, the role demands ownership of projects from requirements gathering to deployment and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom apps, DocTypes, child tables, workflows, dashboards, print formats, notifications, and web forms utilizing the Frappe platform.
  • Implement server-side logic using Python and client-side behavior with JavaScript, including custom validations and automation tasks.
  • Create reports through various reporting tools such as Report Builder, Query Report, and Script Report.
  • Set up role permissions, user access controls, and implement approval hierarchies.
  • Maintain upgrade-safe customizations using Customize Form, custom fields, property setters, fixtures, hooks, and patches without modifying the core code.
  • Conduct requirement gathering, gap-fit analysis, and translate needs into technical specifications.
  • Customize and enhance ERP modules including Accounts, Buying, Selling & CRM, Stock, Manufacturing, Assets, Projects, HR & Payroll.
  • Automate processes by replacing manual steps with workflows, scripts, and scheduled jobs.
  • Manage data migrations from legacy systems via mapping, cleansing, bulk imports, and reconciliation.
  • Provide user training, and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and consume REST APIs for integrations with external services such as banking portals, payment gateways, e-commerce platforms, payroll systems, government e-invoicing, and business intelligence tools.
  • Handle JSON/XML payloads, webhooks, various authentication methods including OAuth, JWT, API keys, and SFTP file exchanges.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues and build retry and error handling mechanisms, keeping interface documentation up to date.
  • Offer Level 2 and Level 3 application support, resolving issues, triaging tickets, and conducting incident reviews.
  • Debug errors from Python, JavaScript, background jobs, schedulers, and permissions utilizing logs from bench, application, MariaDB, and browser consoles.
  • Optimize performance of reports and transactions via query tuning, indexing, and reviewing database schema in MariaDB/PostgreSQL.
  • Maintain thorough understanding of ERPNext data models and DocType relationships.
  • Administer multiple environments (development, staging, production) including site creation, app installation, version upgrades, patches, backups, and restores.
  • Maintain infrastructure stack including Linux, MariaDB, Redis, Nginx, Supervisor, Socket.IO, and background workers.
  • Operate version control workflows with Git, participate in code reviews, and prepare deployment and rollback plans.
  • Write automated tests using the Frappe testing framework and facilitate user acceptance testing.
  • Implement secure coding practices to safeguard sensitive financial, payroll, employee, and customer data and support audit and change management requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • More than 3 years of hands-on development experience with ERPNext and the Frappe framework.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and solid skills in JavaScript (ES6), jQuery, HTML, and CSS.
  • Familiarity with Frappe framework features such as ORM, hooks, scheduled jobs, background workers, permissions, and workflows.
  • Expertise in MariaDB or PostgreSQL including complex queries, joins, indexing, and performance tuning.
  • Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs.
  • Comfort using Linux command line and Git version control.
  • Understanding of business processes in at least two domains among general ledger, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, inventory management, production planning, payroll, or asset management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in ERPNext/Frappe or contributions to their open-source projects.
  • Experience authoring custom Frappe applications from the ground up.
  • Knowledge of Frappe UI, Vue.js, or other contemporary JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience with ERPNext version 15 or later architecture.
  • Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Understanding of regional compliance including VAT, e-invoicing mandates, payroll compliance, and end-of-service benefits.
  • Exposure to multi-company and multi-currency ERP deployments.
  • Experience connecting business intelligence tools like Power BI, Metabase, or Grafana to ERP data.
