Entry-Level Urban Designer

About the Role

ZGF Architects is seeking a motivated Entry-Level Urban Designer to join our Portland office. We encourage an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together architecture and urban design fueled by creativity and curiosity. This role is ideal for individuals with strong communication and design capabilities who are eager to engage in innovative design work.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage as part of a team dedicated to design excellence and innovation.
• Collaborate closely with design colleagues to generate and evolve design concepts.
• Execute fundamental planning and landscape design assignments collaboratively, incorporating data collection, preliminary design assessments, materials and cost considerations, and field inspections.
• Manage projects spanning from initial concept development to construction management.
• Create design drawings, construction documents, presentation visuals, graphic designs, and physical or digital models supporting urban design and marketing initiatives.
• Conduct product and material research and review current and ongoing construction projects to support documentation and reporting.
• Assist in effectively communicating project narratives using diverse media formats.
• Work under supervision with ongoing guidance and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or Urban Design.
• Fundamental understanding of design and construction principles across various building types.
• Innovative problem-solver with versatile urban design skills capable of working independently and within multidisciplinary teams, managing multiple projects with tight timelines.
• Experience with complex, multi-phase projects such as higher education, large transit developments, healthcare, civic, or commercial initiatives is advantageous.
• Interest in advancing technical skills related to materials and construction feasibility.
• Proficiency with Adobe Suite, Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to graphically represent urban planning and design ideas clearly and effectively.
• Strong organizational and analytical capabilities to develop engaging and creative presentations emphasizing storytelling.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary ranges from $69,250 to $70,787. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with substantial employer contributions, Health Savings Account (HSA) funding, 401(k) plan with matching, four weeks of paid time off, ten paid holidays annually, as well as paid parental and family leave options.
