Role Overview

We are seeking eager and motivated entry-level engineers, scientists, chemists, and technicians to contribute technical expertise in the research, design, and execution of projects primarily supporting the U.S. EPA's Office of Research and Development. Projects encompass areas such as decontamination, consequence management, measurement method development and validation, emission source characterization, atmospheric sciences, various exposure studies, and air quality modeling including operation of the Fluid Modeling Facility/Meteorological Wind Tunnel. The work involves specialized laboratories and workshops, including fabrication, metrology, analytical, and microbiological facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in designing, developing, and testing new processes or experiments under senior guidance.
• Support technical report writing, data analysis, and documenting project details.
• Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory and field equipment.
• Execute assigned technical projects collaborating with senior staff.
• Work in cross-functional teams to innovate engineering and scientific solutions.
• Adhere to safety procedures in lab and field environments, ensuring policy compliance.
• Participate in data collection, testing, and compilation of results for ongoing projects.
• Help prepare project plans, schedules, and necessary materials for execution.
• Present findings and progress reports under direction to leadership, clients, or at conferences.
• Gain project management and technical problem-solving exposure by working closely with experienced staff.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
• Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in place of degree.
• Strong analytical, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Interest and competency in scientific and technical work, mechanical equipment, chemistry, and air quality.
• Hands-on experience in laboratory, technical, or engineering projects, academic or professional.
• Preferred experience in mechanical work, laboratory research, or field science.
• Familiarity with EPA source test methods, air quality or emissions monitoring equipment is a plus.
• Willingness to travel nationally for field assignments.
• Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
• Commercial Driver’s License or comparable trailer hauling experience preferred.
