Electrical Technician Sub-AMP

Role Overview

This role acts as a technical expert advising AMP Managers and engineering personnel on electrical systems related to Air Force property. The technician manages an asset lifecycle portfolio including all Air Force-owned electrical power generation and distribution systems on the installation, extending to points of demarcation or up to five feet from these, or including secondary taps on distribution transformers. The position supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) at Al Udeid Air Base, Doha, Qatar.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide specialized advice to AMP Managers and Operational and Engineering Flights on system investment decisions.
• Offer input on industrial control systems related to facilities for the Facilities AMP Manager.
• Guide electrical sub-AMP and interior utility system operations.
• Assist in developing infrastructure plans for multi-year periods including FYDP+3.
• Support pre-design activities for new builds, renovations, and facility improvements.
• Apply and adapt engineering calculations, layout designs, and specification development to meet project goals.
• Oversee an extensive asset portfolio including overhead/underground distribution lines, substations, generation plants, lighting, grounding and cathodic protection systems, and more.
• Conduct selected construction inspections, quality control, and submittal review tasks beyond construction managers' expertise.
• Aid in preparing cost estimates and scheduling plans.
• Prepare technical correspondence, reports, contract documents, status updates, and final construction plans suitable for contractor bidding.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards to foster a safe working environment.
• Serve as alternate Point of Contact for the BUILDER database.
• Manage and administer BUILDER database operations to maintain accuracy, integrity, and synchronization with the Air Force Accountable Property System of Record.
• Inventory and update facility and real property information, ensuring synchronization with RPUID standards and timely updates.
• Provide condition assessments and maintain detailed inventories of all facilities and their components.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

• Equivalent to an Air Force 5-level technician or five years of experience in electrical building systems, electrical safety, power distribution, control systems, and equipment maintenance.
• Completion of required AFIT courses (WENG 200, WMGT 231, WMGT 417) within the earliest available sessions post-hire.
• Preferred experience with R&O, NexGen, and BUILDER systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant training and experience.
• Proficient in reading and utilizing project development, contracting, and construction documentation.
• Working knowledge of design review, project mobilization, quality assurance, safety, and project controls.
• Strong skills in AutoCAD 2025 or later to produce accurate facility and infrastructure designs.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and Project tools.
• Effective English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse and dynamic team.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and sound judgment.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a US Secret Government Clearance (US citizenship required).
• Must be a US Navy (USN) member for this position.
• Valid driver's license and US passport are mandatory.
• Previous experience with overseas government contracting is advantageous.

• Capability to lift, carry, and move supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Assignment may involve remote and potentially challenging living and working conditions.
• Exposure to extended working hours, weather, and hazardous environments.
