About the Position
The University of Washington's Athletics Department, known for inspiring excellence in both sports and academics, is seeking a Digital Communications Assistant for its Tyee and Big W Clubs. This role supports creating engaging written and social content, helping to develop and execute an effective digital communication strategy under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Creative Production.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft and revise content for various donor and alumni materials such as emails, print, web, social media, speeches, scripts, letters, proposals, presentations, campaign messaging, and the donor magazine, ensuring a clear and consistent voice aligned with the audience.
- Create and curate multimedia assets for social platforms, including graphics, videos, and photos, collaborating with team members like videographers.
- Provide event coverage for Tyee and Big W Club activities through social media, coordinating film and photography assignments as needed.
- Manage content posting and monitoring on social channels to maintain consistent messaging and engagement.
- Oversee the full production process of The Tyee Difference magazine and annual Gratitude Report, including scheduling, interviewing, writing, editing, photography curation, and coordination of design and distribution.
- Develop and implement social media strategies to increase followers and engagement for Tyee and Big W Clubs.
- Analyze social media performance data, using insights to improve future content and campaigns.
- Other duties as assigned, ensuring full compliance with institutional and governing regulations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent plus at least two years of clerical work experience; equivalent education/experience substitutions allowed where appropriate.
- Proven project management aptitude, capable of handling multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of current social media trends and channels.
- Experience with AP Style and digital writing best practices.
- Skills in photo editing and social media copywriting.
- Understanding of social media analytics and experience using data to optimize content.
- Strong writing and editing prowess with attention to detail and effectiveness in communicating across diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with managing social platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and Threads.
- Effective organizational and time management skills, with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Creative content production skills including graphic creation using Photoshop templates, event photography, and video filming/editing for social media platforms.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite such as Photoshop and Premiere Pro/Premiere Rush.
- Knowledge of email marketing tools like Marketo, Customer Insights – Journeys, and Thank View.
Additional Information
- Typical weekly hours range from approximately 4 to 20 depending on project demands, with potential increases to full-time hours during peak periods and minimal hours in off-peak times.
- Work primarily occurs remotely with occasional onsite presence required for meetings and event support.

- Employment is temporary and part-time, under union SEIU Local 925 Nonsupervisory.
- Compensation range is $21.70 to $26.84 per hour.
