Job Purpose

The Deputy Manager - Environment will support the Environment Lead in overseeing environmental compliance and management within mining operations. This role includes helping implement environmental management systems, cooperating with regulatory agencies, carrying out monitoring activities, and preparing required reports to ensure adherence to environmental laws and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and maintaining Environmental Management Systems in line with regulatory demands.
  • Engage with relevant regulatory bodies to obtain environmental approvals and permits necessary for mining projects.
  • Support acquiring Consents to Establish (CTO) and ensure environmental compliance throughout project phases.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments and external stakeholders to collect essential data for environmental disclosures.
  • Prepare and submit compliance documentation promptly and accurately to regulatory authorities.
  • Organize and facilitate inspections by environmental regulators, addressing any findings accordingly.
  • Conduct required air, water, and soil quality monitoring, following statutory methodologies and standards.
  • Draft and deliver environmental monitoring reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to management and official entities.
  • Support development of Management Information System (MIS) reports to track environmental performance metrics.
  • Assist in internal environment audits by identifying compliance gaps and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure maintenance and regular calibration of environmental monitoring instruments for precise data collection.
  • Participate in mining site safety inspections and assist in updating safety remarks within company systems.
  • Document all environmental compliance activities thoroughly within company environmental management software such as Legatrix.
  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready records, reports, and documentation accessible for inspections.
  • Help manage the environmental budget as approved, by supporting the Environment Lead.
  • Utilize digital tools and software efficiently to complete daily environmental tasks.
  • Continuously upgrade skills related to emerging digital technologies relevant to the role.

Stakeholder Interaction

  • Internal coordination with Business Heads, Engineering, Horticulture, Safety, and Projects departments.
  • External liaison with Pollution Control Board officials and Forest and Environment Department representatives.

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Science.

Experience Required

A background of 10 to 15 years in relevant environmental management roles within the mining or related sectors.
