Job description
Overview
This role involves providing comprehensive support for DB2 database systems, ensuring efficient query performance, maintaining data integrity, and assisting in database design and changes throughout the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Review and optimize SQL queries developed by application teams to enhance performance and comply with database standards.
- Assist in defining database designs, including structures such as tables, indexes, and relationships to facilitate new features or application enhancements.
- Diagnose and resolve database-related issues reported by application teams, such as SQL errors, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity challenges.
- Manage database changes across various environments (Development, Testing, UAT, Production) by coordinating migration of database objects.
- Monitor and tune database performance by actions like reorganizing tablespaces, updating statistics, and adjusting buffer pools.
- Provide expert advice to developers on DB2 best practices, coding standards, and writing efficient SQL queries.
- Support testing phases by managing data refresh requests, preparing test data, and validating database-related test cases.
Requirements
- Academic background in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related disciplines.
- Preferably at least 5 years experience working with DB2 or similar database technologies.
- Additional knowledge in Job Control Language (JCL), VSAM and mainframe storage concepts is advantageous.
- Familiarity with database utilities, tools, as well as backup and recovery procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Availability to work extended hours including weekends when required.
