Job description
Role Overview
Vertiv is looking for a proactive and driven Contract Management Specialist to join the Commercial Department. This role is highly operational, focusing on recognizing and managing Change Orders across ongoing projects, as well as handling disputes and claims from clients. The successful candidate will provide direct commercial and contractual guidance to Project Managers during project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Early detection of changes, scope deviations, and contract variations across designated projects.
- Supporting creation and validation of Change Order proposals with detailed commercial and valuation justification.
- Ensuring all change notifications comply with contract deadlines to safeguard entitlements.
- Updating and maintaining accurate Change Order logs and regularly reporting their status to project teams and senior management.
- Managing Change Orders through negotiation and resolution phases, including client discussions over valuations.
- Assisting Project Managers in commercially evaluating client requests, drawing changes, and scope variations for entitlement assessments.
- Preparing extension of time requests when project timelines are affected by changes.
- Serving as the main commercial liaison for Project Managers regarding Change Orders and claims during project lifecycle.
- Offering daily advice on contractual notification duties, entitlement issues, and commercial risks.
- Enhancing understanding of contractual duties, deadlines, and claim mechanisms among project teams.
- Collaborating with planning professionals to assess project schedule impact to support time-related claims.
- Supporting preparation of monthly valuations and payment applications ensuring all authorized Change Orders are recorded and valued properly.
- Participating in commercial project reviews by providing clear reporting on Change Order progress, values, and collection success.
- Handling customer disputes, back-charges, and counterclaims with thorough technical and commercial evaluations.
- Drafting detailed responses to client claims clearly articulating the company's contractual stance.
- Defending the company against unwarranted charges using comprehensive documentation such as records, correspondences, and scheduling data.
- Engaging with clients directly to resolve disputes professionally and collaboratively.
- Supporting formal claim preparations if informal resolutions fail.
- Keeping meticulous records and audit trails to strengthen the company's position in disputes.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- 3 to 5 years' experience in commercial, contract management, or quantity surveying roles within Construction or Engineering sectors, preferably with Mechanical or Electrical experience.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, Engineering, Commercial Management, or related fields.
- Proven track record in the creation and recovery of Change Orders or contract variations on construction/engineering projects.
- Experience managing customer disputes, back-charges, or claims.
- Strong knowledge of contractual notification requirements and their practical enforcement.
- Self-driven with capability to work independently and build strong collaborations across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing, and communication skills, with proficiency in drafting precise contractual correspondence.
- Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving aptitude, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Functional experience using ERP systems and document management tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

This position is primarily located at Vertiv's office in Burnfoot, County Donegal, Ireland, with possible flexibility to work from the Zagreb office in Croatia.
