Overview
The Oklahoma State Treasurer is currently seeking a detail-focused and diligent professional to join the Unclaimed Property Division. This program is dedicated to returning unclaimed assets such as securities, insurance proceeds, mineral royalties, cash, and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes to their rightful owners or heirs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough office audits of claims and related business documents to verify adherence to laws and applicable regulations.
- Provide guidance to claimants on interpreting and applying statutes related to unclaimed property, consulting with supervisors when claims are complex.
- Maintain accurate records and produce written and verbal reports concerning cases and departmental activities.
- Coordinate with legal and financial professionals as necessary to administer state laws on unclaimed property.
- Develop effective working relationships with colleagues, management, claimants, and the public to foster a cooperative atmosphere.
- Engage in other related duties as assigned to support the division's goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of general accounting and bookkeeping concepts.
- Familiarity with business organization management principles.
- Effective professional communication skills including written correspondence and phone etiquette.
- Knowledge of state laws and regulations concerning unclaimed property.
- Ability to assess reporting requirements based on document review.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly.
- Capability to maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Experienced in handling challenging customer interactions with de-escalation skills.
- Proficient computer skills for analysis and use of office software.

- Proficiency with PC office tools including Microsoft Office Suite and data entry.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This office role is performed in a climate-controlled, moderate noise workplace. Tasks require prolonged sitting, frequent computer and telephone use, and mobility within the office.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers an annual salary of $52,800. Employees enjoy comprehensive benefits including a monthly insurance allowance for themselves and eligible dependents, retirement plan participation, 11 paid holidays, longevity bonuses, and accrual of 15 vacation and 15 sick leave days within the first year.
Schedule and Terms
- Full-time regular employment with core hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.
- Flextime and incentive pay programs become available after successful training completion and quarterly performance goals.
- Employment is at-will and the role is FLSA Non-Exempt.
- New hires undergo a minimum trial period between six months to one year.
Qualification Requirements
- Associate degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, or law.
- One year of relevant experience in business, accounting, finance, public administration, or legal fields.
- Applicants must provide documentation verifying education certifications as required.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is mandatory.
- Employment subject to credit checks at agency discretion.
