Job description

Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) acts as a key strategic partner to the President/CEO and Board of Directors, overseeing the organization's financial health. This senior executive is in charge of shaping and executing the financial strategies to maintain long-term safety, soundness, and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct oversight of accounting, financial reporting, asset/liability management, treasury, capital planning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide actionable financial insights for informed decision-making.
  • Play a pivotal role in enterprise risk management, digital finance transformation, and corporate strategic initiatives.

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Manage all accounting processes including general ledger and period-end closing activities.
  • Ensure financial statements comply with GAAP and are delivered timely and accurately.
  • Prepare regulatory filings such as Quarterly Call Reports and enforce stringent internal financial controls.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
  • Oversee investment accounting, accounts payable, and expense approvals.
  • Provide necessary reports for board review, shareholders, and regulatory purposes.

Risk and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to regulations set by federal and state entities (FDIC, Federal Reserve, DIFS).
  • Collaborate with compliance and risk management teams to monitor interest rate, liquidity, and capital adequacy risks.
  • Support audits and regulatory examinations.

Asset/Liability Management (ALM)

  • Lead the Asset/Liability Committee and oversee interest rate risk and balance sheet structure management.
  • Implement strategies to optimize net interest margins and earnings.

Budgeting and Strategic Planning

  • Head the annual budgeting and long-term financial planning efforts.
  • Conduct financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis for executive decision-making.
  • Support strategic growth, branch expansion, and product development initiatives.

Treasury and Liquidity Management

  • Manage cash operations, funding strategies, and the investment portfolio.
  • Ensure compliance with liquidity requirements to meet operational and regulatory demands.
  • Maintain relationships with correspondent banks and funding sources.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor finance, accounting, investment, and facilities teams.
  • Promote a culture emphasizing accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, lending, risk, and compliance units.
  • Build strong partnerships with board members, regulators, and auditors.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear recommendations for stakeholders.

Additional Duties

  • Fulfill other responsibilities assigned by the President, CEO, or Board of Directors.
  • Suggest improvements to accounting functions and department processes.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily desk-based role with up to full-time sitting.
  • Occasional travel to branch locations for upkeep and inspection.
  • No exposure to hazardous conditions or physical exertion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline is required; advanced credentials such as MBA, CPA, or CFA are highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, including experience in senior management.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams effectively.
  • Extensive background in banking or regulated financial services including community or commercial banking or credit unions.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP, regulatory reporting, and financial oversight in regulated settings.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel; familiarity with financial reporting systems is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success spearheading financial initiatives and communicating with executives and board members.
