Job Overview
We seek a proficient CATIA V5 Design Engineer specialized in automotive plastic component design. The role centers on creating precise CAD models, developing plastic products aligned with industry standards, and supporting manufacturing readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop automotive plastic parts utilizing CATIA V5 software.
- Generate and update 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies in plastic component development.
- Engineer plastic features such as ribs, bosses, snap-fits, dog houses, heat stakes, clips, locators, and mounting fixtures.
- Conduct draft analyses, wall thickness assessments, undercut evaluations, and feasibility studies for injection molded parts.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Hands-on expertise with CATIA V5 modules: Part Design, Assembly Design, Generative Shape Design, and Drafting.
- Experience designing automotive plastic components, including interior and exterior trim, under-hood parts, or functional plastic assemblies.
- Thorough understanding of injection molding processes and plastic part design criteria.
- Familiarity with Class-A, Class-B, and Class-C surface quality classifications.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and standard engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of DFM, DFA principles, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design validation techniques.
Preferred Experience
- Background in automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers.
- Exposure to the full product development life cycle, from conceptualization through production.
- Experience managing engineering change requests (ECR), engineering change notices (ECN), and adhering to customer-specific design standards.
