Job description
Position Overview
The Career Development Officer will be responsible for managing talent acquisition pipelines, implementing career progression frameworks, and providing career coaching to support the growth and mobility of staff within the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Studies, Psychology, Humanities, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Familiarity with career development and employee staff development concepts.
- Fluency in English required; proficiency in French is advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in career development and placement roles.
- Experience working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) or other humanitarian nonprofit organizations is beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain pipelines for crucial operational and leadership positions to ensure a pool of qualified candidates aligned with the organization's present and future staffing demands.
- Develop and uphold career development frameworks, competency models, and growth tools to facilitate staff progression across MSF entities.
- Conduct regular talent assessments and career progression tracking, implementing timely strategies to encourage employee advancement and retention.
- Offer professional career counseling, guiding employees on career choices, mobility, and long-term planning.
- Collaborate with Learning and Capability Development teams to identify skill gaps and coordinate relevant training initiatives.
- Utilize performance and potential evaluation data to propose development opportunities, succession routes, and readiness for promotions.
- Champion equal career advancement opportunities and support diversity within leadership and specialist talent pools.
- Analyze workforce and career data to derive insights and informed recommendations for strategic HR planning employing HR information systems.
- Facilitate internal transfers and developmental assignments across MSF operations to expand competencies and support organizational workforce requirements.
- Design and execute career development programs specifically tailored for Country-Based Staff (CBS), working closely with management to improve workforce capabilities and succession strategies.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate actively in broader HR initiatives and contribute to process enhancements through individual projects.
- Incorporate Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI), and Safeguarding principles into all career development activities, ensuring staff wellbeing and access to duty-of-care resources following challenging assignments.
- Identify, respond to, and report any forms of abuse or inappropriate conduct to the safeguarding unit promptly.
- Engage proactively in the performance management cycle including goal setting, monitoring, and evaluation.
