Up and Under Ltd, part of the RSK Group, is an engineering consultancy specializing in inspections and surveys of various bridges, buildings, and structures within transportation, utilities, and built sectors. Their projects range across the UK and include significant national landmarks, such as highway bridges in London and the Jodrell Bank Lovell Telescope. The company provides specialist services including rope access and confined space work.
Role Overview
We are seeking full-time, permanent Bridge Inspectors/Examiners to join our Crewe-based team. This role offers hybrid working opportunities from home or various RSK offices nationwide. The position requires travel across the UK, sometimes involving site-based projects, with occasional night and weekend work that is compensated with overtime pay.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections on a wide range of structures, including those of national strategic importance.
- Lead inspection teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Prepare detailed reports, drawings, and defect schedules.
- Manage complex, one-off inspection projects.
- Adhere to ISO-compliant quality, health, and safety systems in all tasks.
- Balance hybrid work with site-based assignments depending on business needs.
- Travel within the UK, often working away from home, requiring a full UK driving license.
- Occasionally perform night and weekend shifts with additional pay.
Essential Qualifications and Attributes
- Experience in bridge inspection or maintenance, preferably in highways or rail; relevant structural inspection experience may also be considered.
- Strong technical knowledge of construction materials and structural forms.
- Basic proficiency in office IT tools including Word, Excel, databases, CAD, web research, email, and file management.
- Organized, focused, and able to motivate and collaborate with team members.
- Genuine interest in engineering principles and the ability to communicate them clearly.
- Demonstrated excellence in report writing.
- Familiarity with investigation methods for common construction materials.
- A full UK driving license is mandatory.
- Physically fit to perform fieldwork involving walking on rough terrain, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and working under varied weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- HND or NVQ in a relevant construction discipline.
- EngTech certification.
- Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) or Network Rail STE certifications (STE03, STE04, STE05, STE07) or working towards them.
- Successful candidates will undergo drug and alcohol screening before and during employment.
