Biomedical Scientist / Trainee Biomedical Scientist

About the Role

Join the Biochemistry Department at Queen's Burton Hospital within the Chesterfield Royal Hospital site as a Biomedical Scientist or Trainee Biomedical Scientist. We are seeking motivated and HCPC registered professionals to become part of our diligent and friendly team. Trainee posts (Band 5 annex-21) will also be considered for candidates who have completed at least 75% of their portfolio, duly marked and signed.

Our laboratory holds full UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation and is endorsed by IBMS as a training centre for both registration and specialist portfolios. The department features advanced technology, including the Roche Cobas 8100 automated workflow system alongside ISE, c702, and e801 units. While based primarily at Queen's Hospital Burton, cross-site work at Derby may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver technical excellence with meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Process clinical samples daily and authorize clinical results to meet agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Supervise support staff ensuring smooth workflow within the Biochemistry section.
• Participate in continuous service improvement, including quality management activities and diverse projects.
• Prepare for 24/7 shift work, covering nights, late, early, weekends, and bank holidays, with competency assessments provided.

Required Skills and Experience

• HCPC registration with relevant biomedical science experience is essential.
• Ability to work independently for extended periods and adapt to variable shift patterns.
• A proactive willingness to develop autonomy and an understanding of the role’s requirements if experience is limited.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred; knowledge of Q-Pulse/Ideagen and WinPath software is advantageous.
