Role Overview

We are seeking an Applied Scientist to join our AI Demand Forecasting team. The focus of this role is to develop advanced machine learning forecasting capabilities that underpin important business decisions across ASOS.

Initially rooted in replenishment forecasting, the team is expanding into creating a versatile forecasting platform that caters to multiple applications such as AI-driven pricing strategies and optimizing supply chains. This role involves solving complex machine learning challenges and building flexible forecasting solutions that benefit various business units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement machine learning models for demand forecasting in live production settings.
  • Enhance forecasting precision, robustness, scalability, and interpretability for diverse business needs.
  • Create forecasting solutions supporting several downstream applications including replenishment, pricing, and supply chain optimization.
  • Design and conduct both offline and online evaluations to assess model accuracy and measure business impact.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to transition models into production environments, ensuring system reliability and scalability.
  • Investigate and experiment with new modeling techniques from both industry advancements and academic research.
  • Support the scientific leadership of the team by participating in technical discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience translating machine learning research into practical, scalable forecasting systems.
  • Familiarity with developing and deploying ML models in real-world production environments.
  • Strong foundation in statistics, analytics, and machine learning applied to solve practical problems.
  • Expertise or interest in time series forecasting, probabilistic forecasting, deep learning, gradient boosting methods, causal inference, or optimization techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Ability to handle large datasets and use distributed data processing technologies.
  • Good software engineering skills including version control, testing, and writing maintainable code.
  • Skilled in communicating complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Curious and pragmatic mindset with a strong desire to learn, experiment, and contribute knowledge.
