Accountant

Overview

As an Accountant reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will oversee the quality of outputs from the accounting team, which operates globally as a shared service centre or 'Hub'. This involves managing core financial activities such as accounting, reporting, order to cash, and purchase to payment processes. Your key responsibilities include ensuring accurate month-end closure, maintaining tax compliance, supporting audits, and enforcing financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Foster collaboration with the Hub's accounting team to guarantee precise monthly account preparation.
• Perform monthly reviews of balance sheet items, accruals, and cost variances, and communicate findings to the Head of Finance.
• Prepare documentation and support interim and annual audits as well as statutory accounts.
• Coordinate corporation tax submissions for UK and Ireland entities.
• Analyze postings related to cost and profit centers produced by the Hub's accounting team.
• Assist in compiling year-end reporting packages for UK and Ireland operations.
• Oversee IFRS16 accounting processes and fixed asset evaluations alongside the Hub team.
• Handle qualitative and ad hoc journal entries, including provisions and year-end adjustments.
• Support various ad hoc finance duties such as updating accounting master data, raising purchase orders, contributing to group reporting, and engaging in treasury and banking activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualified or near-qualified accounting professional.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of overall accounting experience.
• At least one year in a similar accounting role.

Functional Competencies

• Strong hands-on experience with SAP accounting software.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and comfort using various IT systems.
• Good understanding of financial reporting cycles and internal control frameworks.
• Experience with monthly management reporting.
• Retail sector experience is highly beneficial.

Communication Skills

• Excellent written and spoken English skills.
• Ability to effectively engage multiple senior stakeholders.
• Confidence in liaising with remote accounting teams.
