Role Overview
This position functions within a large-scale global logistics and finance context, where freight invoices—covering various transport modes such as parcel, Less Than Truckload (LTL), Full Truckload (FTL), ocean, and air—are managed across multiple carriers including UPS, DHL, and Expeditors. The role ensures comprehensive freight audit, carrier billing validation, and reporting processes that strictly adhere to contracted rates, tariffs, and organizational financial controls.
Work is performed using integrated platforms such as Transport Management Systems (TMS) including Blue Yonder, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) like SAP, where data precision, invoice matching, and audit traceability are pivotal. The consultant will collaborate closely with Logistics, Accounts Payable, Procurement, IT departments, and external carrier partners to resolve billing inconsistencies, manage disputes, and refine processes.
Given the intricacy of billing components like accessorial fees, surcharges, and multi-leg shipments, continuous data analysis, trend identification, billing accuracy improvement, and cost efficiency initiatives are essential. Maintaining compliance and supporting financial reporting responsibilities is a critical part of the position.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct end-to-end audits and validations of freight invoices aligned with contracted pricing, tariffs, and shipment data
- Detect, investigate, and resolve billing mismatches, duplicate charges, and invoices that don't comply with agreements
- Manage communications and dispute handling with carriers, including initiation, follow-up, escalation, and resolution processes
- Perform root cause analyses for recurring invoice issues and implement corrective measures
- Work across TMS (Blue Yonder) and ERP (SAP) environments to confirm data accuracy and integration
- Maintain thorough audit records, compliance documentation, and ensure governance traceability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Logistics, Accounts Payable, and Procurement to address challenges and optimize workflows
- Assist in carrier onboarding processes, rate validation, and enhancements to systems and procedures
- Contribute to the creation and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and standardization efforts
Required Skills and Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of freight auditing and billing including understanding transport rates, contracts, and accessorial charges with the ability to verify invoice accuracy
- Strong analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities to identify discrepancies, conduct root cause analysis, and generate cost-saving recommendations
- Proficient in operating transport management systems such as Blue Yonder, SAP ERP, and Microsoft Excel to assure data accuracy and reliable reporting
- Experienced in managing carrier disputes and effectively communicating with stakeholders across Logistics, Accounts Payable, and Procurement
- Discipline in process adherence with capability to maintain audit documentation and deliver precise outputs within deadlines
- A proactive approach towards continuous process improvement, identifying gaps, and driving operational efficiencies and standardization
