Job description

About the Organization and Role

Since 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been dedicated to upholding human dignity and alleviating suffering caused by conflict and armed violence globally. Partnering with Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, the ICRC delivers critical humanitarian aid, reconnects families separated by conflict, and locates missing persons—supporting people regardless of their affiliations or locations. The organization also engages confidentially with authorities and armed parties to promote access to detainees, improve their conditions, and encourage adherence to international humanitarian law, including protections against digital threats.

Role Purpose

The Technology & Information Product Owner plays a key role in coordinating with diverse ICT stakeholders such as Project Managers, ICT Managers, Business Relationship Managers, Platform Owners, and Solution Architects, along with external partners involved in ICT product integration. This position entails owning the assigned product, guiding its evolution, ensuring smooth operational service delivery, and maintaining the consistency and coherence of technical architectural decisions affiliated with their product or functional domain. Additionally, the Product Owner effectively communicates complex technical subjects and challenges to both management and key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Predict and address business requirements by advising on relevant technologies within the product domain.
  • Manage backlog prioritization for both build and operational activities, translating business needs into clear priorities for Agile teams by specifying the what and why behind each requirement.
  • Continuously monitor the product against architecture and infrastructure standards and guidelines to maintain alignment.
  • Participate actively as a member of Agile Product Teams, engaging in ceremonies and promoting Agile best practices.
  • Drive the achievement of milestone targets agreed with the Product Line Lead, ensuring the product meets essential non-functional expectations such as performance, stability, upgradeability, and security.
  • Supervise allocation of resources at the product level, including managing external resources when applicable, to ensure timely and successful delivery.
  • Apply data analytics and performance metrics to support value-driven decision-making, minimizing reliance on assumptions in setting priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Release Train Engineers, business stakeholders, peer Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Agile Delivery Teams to secure successful outcomes.
  • Support the formulation and execution of the overarching product line strategy.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in ICT Management, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related fields.
  • At least five years of experience in a comparable role managing enterprise technology solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing, integrating, and supporting enterprise-level technology products throughout their lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with software development, system implementation and deployment, and Agile project delivery methodologies.
  • Agile certification is beneficial; training and coaching opportunities will be provided.
  • Experience with Frappe platform is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of digital transformation, enterprise architecture principles, and current technology trends.
  • Proficient in English and/or French; proficiency in additional languages will be considered an asset.

What We Offer

  • Work in a diverse, humanitarian-focused environment.
  • Be part of meaningful efforts to protect and assist victims of conflict worldwide.
  • Access to professional development and training programs.
  • Flexible working hours to support work-life balance.

Organizational Values

  • The ICRC emphasizes impact, teamwork, respect, and compassion, expecting all employees to embody these core principles in their professional conduct.

Additional Information

  • Position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • This is a fixed-term contract for one year, with potential for renewal based on budget considerations and performance.
  • Applicants must have current legal authorization to live and work in Kenya; the ICRC will not sponsor work permits for this position.
  • This role is classified at job level C1 within the organization.
  • Application deadline is August 20, 2026.
