Job description
Role Overview
BCP Council is recruiting a Site Operative to join the team at Millhams Recycling Centre located on Ringwood Road, Bournemouth. This position is a full-time, fixed rota role working 37 hours weekly, from Thursday to Monday, inclusive of weekends and Bank Holidays. The council's facilities operate 362 days annually, closing only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
Key Duties
- Sort waste and recyclable materials efficiently.
- Assist daily operations including loading and site cleaning tasks such as sweeping.
- Ensure the recycling centre is kept clean, well-maintained, and safe for visitors.
- Communicate effectively with site users, guiding residents on proper waste and recycling disposal procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
Applicants do not need previous experience in waste management. The role requires physical stamina due to working outdoors in varying weather conditions. BCP Council provides opportunities for skill development, including plant driver/operator training for successful candidates.
Compensation
The starting salary is £26,824 per annum (pro-rata if part-time), with all new employees commencing at the entry level of the designated pay band to ensure fairness. Internal moves within the same profession may receive an adjusted pay point relevant to their current level.
