Role Overview
The Shift Lead supervises store operations in the absence of management, from opening and closing duties to cash handling and ensuring the business area is prepared for openings and closings. This includes managing deliveries and employee bag checks, while also providing outstanding customer interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and close the store when managers are absent, managing systems start-up, cash processes, and store readiness.
- Process product returns, void orders, handle customer refunds, and perform cash drops and register change provisions.
- Create a welcoming and helpful environment by engaging customers and resolving their inquiries and issues to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, teaching interpersonal and Walgreens-specific service skills to team members.
- Hold store keys for secure opening and closing as needed.
- Support and mentor team members in processing warehouse/vendor orders and accepting deliveries through the back door.
- Accountable for accurate sales registration, including handling scanning errors and modifying prices appropriately.
- Assist with order exceptions, returns, and reverse logistics in collaboration with store management.
- Help develop and adjust merchandise displays and ensure appropriate reset and promotional placements.
- Maintain precise inventory records and on-hand quantities across all departments and stockrooms.
- Ensure compliance with product outdate programs and regulatory pricing requirements.
- Support basic bookkeeping tasks such as cash reports, ledger maintenance, and bill payments when needed.
- Contribute to store cleanliness and appearance and arrange necessary repairs if management is absent.
- Follow proper product placement and stock rotation procedures, especially for consumables and raw items.
- Operate and have knowledge of store systems and equipment.
- Provide assistance at the Pharmacy window upon request.
- Ensure adherence to laws on regulated products like alcohol and tobacco.
- Conduct employee bag checks before shifts end.
- Uphold all company policies and foster respectful coworker relationships.
- Complete special projects and training assignments as directed.
- Communicate with team members regarding tasks during management absences and report disciplinary or customer issues to management.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year leadership, supervisory, or retail key holder experience.
- Fluent in English reading, writing, and speaking (except in Puerto Rico).
- Preferred: knowledge in store inventory control.
- Accepts applicants with arrest and conviction records in compliance with company policy.
- Must obtain and keep valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license as applicable by state regulations.
Compensation and Additional Information
This position offers an hourly wage between $17 and $20, with actual pay determined by location, skills, education, and experience. The role stays open until it is filled. Walgreens is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including for persons with disabilities and veterans.
