Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic technology team, which is distributed between Auckland (Takapuna) and Wellington, with hybrid work as the standard mode. Strong candidates may also opt for fully remote positions anywhere within New Zealand.

The role involves contributing to the development and maintenance of a robust, cloud-based, multi-tenant SaaS platform. This position offers the chance to be hands-on with the entire lifecycle of our software solutions, showcasing genuine ownership and impact.

Primary Responsibilities

• Deliver projects maintaining high standards of quality throughout development.
• Support and actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Engage in risk evaluation and implement measures to address potential issues.
• Analyze and resolve application problems effectively.
• Suggest and help implement new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
• Provide thorough design assessments and technical advice during development.
• Regularly attend team meetings to discuss ongoing projects, challenges, and new ideas.
• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to create comprehensive test cases, procedures, and plans.
• Work closely with colleagues to prioritize and complete assigned project tasks efficiently.
• Maintain and upgrade existing software systems as needed.
• Participate in technical audits and ensure audit recommendations are executed.
• Develop tailored technical solutions that align with business goals and requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proven commercial experience with backend development using Java, Spring framework, and Hibernate/JPA.
• Competency in developing frontend applications using contemporary technology stacks.
• Good understanding of microservices architecture and cloud deployment methods, including infrastructure as code practices.
• Experience managing API lifecycle including publishing, version control, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of both structured and unstructured database system design.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Exposure to insurance, e-commerce, and payment technologies is advantageous but not mandatory.
