About the Role
Axios is a media organization focused on delivering reliable, award-winning news in a format centered around its audience. The Senior Editorial Associate for Axios Live occupies a pivotal role that blends journalism, event management, audience engagement, and content planning, helping to animate Axios Live's discussions before, during, and after events. This position reports directly to the Editorial Director of Axios Live.
Key Responsibilities
This position plays a vital function in Axios Live’s editorial workflow by transforming live event discussions into meaningful journalism and engaging audience experiences. Collaboration is essential, working closely with newsroom, social media, marketing, and events teams to manage coverage surrounding events—from designing impactful roundtables and preparing event moderators to real-time social media posting and composing follow-up articles.
- Identify notable quotes, edit video clips, and live-tweet during staffed events with fast turnaround.
- Compose concise recap articles in Axios’s Smart Brevity style across various event formats.
- Prepare and refine YouTube video titles and descriptions using AI-assisted tools, ensuring editorial standards compliance.
- Create LinkedIn recap posts for Axios Houses and Summits.
- Integrate applicable Axios newsroom reporting into event communications and materials for attendees.
- Support the proactive generation of concepts and ideas for upcoming events.
- Maintain high editorial quality and adherence to the Axios Smart Brevity style across all produced content.
- Draft attendee-facing emails such as pre-event 'Know Before You Go,' thank-you notes, moderator outreach, and reminders.
- Ensure all event messaging complies with Axios Live editorial guidelines and styles.
- Quickly prepare transcripts and post-event materials within tight deadlines.
- Collaborate with newsroom, social, and communication teams to highlight key newsworthy moments during events.
- Be prepared to respond promptly to editorial requests during major event programs.
- Lead guest invitation strategy for Roundtables by managing executive-level participant lists.
- Research and evaluate prospective attendees ensuring relevance, diversity, newsworthiness, and current leadership roles.
- Monitor client suggestions, competitor sensitivities, and audience interests.
- Coordinate outreach efforts to communications teams, PR professionals, and industry stakeholders.
- Manage invitation workflows, including initial invites, follow-ups, RSVP tracking, substitutions, and communications.
- Maintain detailed invitation trackers and attendee databases.
- Report attendance and participation statuses to client leads.
- Serve as the editorial lead on-site during events.
- Oversee audio recording, note-taking, and transcription processes.
- Organize moderator preparation by scheduling briefing calls, compiling research materials, and preparing conversation frameworks.
- Create detailed moderator guides, run-of-show schedules, and event scripts.
- Prepare attendee lookbooks, seating plans, and briefing documents.
- Gather moderators, discussion prompts, relevant Axios reports, and thought starter materials.
- Ensure moderators are thoroughly briefed and supported throughout event execution.
- Maintain and update editorial procedure documentation covering concept submissions, roundtable attendees, and related editorial outputs.
- Assist in migrating and organizing workflows through platforms such as Google Sites, Airtable, and internal tools.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements of Axios Live’s editorial processes and operations.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional experience in journalism, content strategy, communications, events, audience engagement, or a related discipline.
- Exceptional ability to write quickly and clearly in AP style under deadlines.
- Strong grasp of editorial judgment and news standards.
- Experience producing social media content and covering live events.
- Excellent organizational skills with acute attention to detail.
- Adept at managing multiple projects and competing priorities concurrently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Experience collaborating with senior executives, journalists, or public-facing stakeholders.
- Familiarity with AI-driven content tools and editorial workflows.
- Working knowledge of tools such as Google Workspace, Airtable, Splash, and Sailthru is advantageous.
- Ability to work autonomously yet coordinate efficiently across teams.
- Willingness to travel and accommodate non-standard working hours, including early mornings, evenings, and event days.
- A strong passion for journalism, live event coverage, and fostering impactful conversations.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual salary for this position ranges from 65000 to 80000 USD, varying based on location, experience, and skills. This range excludes additional compensation benefits. Salary is aligned with geographic labor cost differences and the role's remote option within the United States.
