About Arcanys
Arcanys is a privately owned company with over 300 employees, including approximately 280 software engineers, QA analysts, project managers, business analysts, and designers predominantly based in the Philippines. The company is not just a technology outsourcing firm but also actively invests in early-stage startups through its Arcanys Ventures unit, particularly focusing on around ten new investments annually in Australia.
Arcanys currently has a team of senior architects across Europe, with one located in Melbourne. Due to increasing demand, we seek to add another architect in Melbourne to lead a team of about 20 engineers at one of our portfolio companies.
Role Overview
The Senior Architect will be a key technical leader functioning as the bridge between business goals and technical implementation. This position encompasses four primary areas of responsibility: architecture, technical leadership, cloud resource configuration, and security. The role involves steering application architecture strategy, guiding the development team technically, managing Azure cloud resources strategy, and leading security and PCI compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct high-level design and oversee the interaction of software components, both internal and external.
- Provide guidance on database design and monitor application performance to ensure efficiency.
- Develop and execute the overall application architecture strategy.
- Lead the development team using Agile/SCRUM practices, conduct code reviews, and enhance code and unit testing quality.
- Troubleshoot technical issues, promote continuous improvements, and manage complex tasks as they arise.
- Design, oversee, and manage Azure cloud resource configurations, aiming for optimal performance and cost efficiency.
- Ensure all software delivery complies with PCI standards, manage third-party software patching, identify security vulnerabilities, and spearhead security and compliance initiatives.
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
- Resident of Melbourne, Australia with immediate full work rights; no visa sponsorship or relocation aid available.
- At least 15 years of experience in software development.
- Proven leadership of software development teams applying Agile/SCRUM methodologies.
- Expert in Microsoft C# .NET and Angular framework with strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills.
- Extensive experience with RDBMS, specifically Microsoft SQL Server, preferably Azure SQL Database.
- Hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure services.
- Proven track record in unit testing creation and leadership of testing strategies.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Azure App Service and Azure SQL Database.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines.
- Prior involvement in achieving PCI DSS certification.
Technical Platforms
The role uses a broad Microsoft and Azure technology stack including Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines, Test Plans), Visual Studio/Code, Angular, TypeScript, C#.NET, VB.NET (legacy), Entity Framework, Azure SQL and Cosmos Databases, and various Azure PaaS resources like Application Gateway with WAF, App Service, Application Insights, Key Vault, Log Analytics Workspace, and Azure Sentinel.
Work Environment
- Position based in Melbourne, requiring 1–2 days per week onsite attendance by mutual agreement.
- Leads a remote development team of 21 members including BAs, developers, QA engineers, and project managers located in the Philippines.
