Position Overview
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) invites applications for a Railroad Flagger based in Allentown, PA. This full-time role is essential for ensuring safety on rail tracks by managing train movements and strictly adhering to federal safety regulations. The position supports a range of rail operations including major and short line railroads, transit systems, transportation projects, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate site activities efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, train crews, railroad personnel, and contractors.
- Conduct safety briefings prior to commencement of work.
- Enforce all applicable railroad, state, and federal safety rules and regulations.
- Verify contractors meet all training standards.
- Identify and mitigate rule infractions on site.
- Prepare comprehensive daily reports documenting work activities.
- Maintain adherence to federal regulations for safety on track.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum two years of experience in rail-related roles within Class 1 Railroads, Regional Short Lines, Transit Systems, State DOT Rail Divisions, or related railroad suppliers and contractors, ideally in Maintenance Of Way (MOW) operations.
- Proficient with basic computer applications such as Citrix, email, and messaging apps.
- Comfortable operating Android tablets and smartphones.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Understanding of railroad engineering, design, and safety practices.
- Ability to foster and maintain positive client relationships.
- Preparedness to travel extensively, often for extended periods ranging from weeks to months.
- Completion of mandatory federal, client, and company training.
Working Conditions
- Work primarily takes place outdoors in field environments.
- Candidate must be able to stand for prolonged periods and walk over uneven terrain.
- Good vision is required, including near and far, color perception, and peripheral awareness.
- Work conditions include exposure to extreme weather (both hot and cold) and noisy, dusty environments.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must be willing to travel or drive long distances regularly.
