About the Role
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Band 5 radiographers to join its proactive and supportive X-ray department located on the South Coast. The department operates with advanced radiology equipment and offers a friendly work environment.
Responsibilities and Training
New employees receive comprehensive induction and preceptorship programs that foster self-development encompassing audits, equipment handling, and imaging techniques. Ongoing professional development is supported through internal CPD sessions and opportunities for external training.
Radiographers will primarily be based at Bournemouth Hospital, with potential rotations to Christchurch and Poole Hospitals. Expectations include proficiency and active participation in general X-ray imaging, fluoroscopy, theatre imaging, and dental radiography. Staff will also contribute to 24/7 out-of-hours X-ray coverage.
Career Development
The Trust encourages continuous skill advancement and is committed to role extension. Training is provided in plain image reporting, fluoroscopic procedures, and ultrasound. Reporting Radiographers handle a range of radiographs including emergency department, general practice, outpatient, and inpatient images covering appendicular, axial, and chest areas. Fluoroscopic duties cover interventional procedures such as barium swallows, arthrograms, proctograms, and hysterosalpingograms.
Requirements and Professional Registration
This position requires registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Additional Information
The base location is Royal Bournemouth Hospital. The interview date is scheduled for Tuesday, 11th August 2026.
The Trust is currently investing in service improvements aligned with the New Hospital Programme, which may result in temporary or permanent service relocations. Recruiting managers will address role-specific queries during interviews. Travel from home to any new work base will be treated as a normal commute with no excess mileage reimbursement. Other employment conditions will follow existing Trust or national policies.
