Job description

Role Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor based in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, you will provide vital commercial support to various project teams ensuring adherence to contractual obligations while managing cost controls and budgets effectively. This full-time position requires working 45 hours a week under the supervision of a Senior Quantity Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates and project budgets.
  • Participate actively in cost control activities and prepare monthly Cost Value Reports (CVRs).
  • Perform site visits to evaluate project progress and compare against schedules and budgets.
  • Manage payments to subcontractors.
  • Support tender pricing processes and development of contract documentation.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks while applying company risk management policies.
  • Coordinate authorization and submission processes for project variations.
  • Authorize contracts, subcontracts, materials, and plant orders placements.
  • Optimize cash flow via control, valuation, and invoicing of work, and management of customer and supplier payments.
  • Promote adherence to company health and safety policies and risk management practices.
  • Uphold company values to exceed customer expectations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification.
  • Safe Pass certification.
  • Valid full clean driver’s licence.
  • Manual handling training.
  • Experience in quantity surveying within trenching, ducting, substations, and overhead lines sectors.
  • Strong background in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors.
  • Proficient knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis methodologies.
  • Understanding of product and contract conditions and construction industry laws.
  • Familiarity with FIDIC and NEC3 terms and conditions.
  • Capability to challenge resources and costs effectively and negotiate project costs.
  • Excellent teamwork and independent work abilities.
  • Outstanding written and verbal customer service skills.
  • Advanced IT proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage workload priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in quantity surveying for general construction, mechanical and electrical works, or telecommunications projects.
  • Chartered status or membership in relevant professional bodies such as RICS, ICE, or CIOB.

Additional Information
