Role Overview
The Principal Data Scientist plays a pivotal role in guiding TE’s enterprise-wide AI strategy and promoting the adoption of advanced AI technologies. This senior technical leadership position involves working closely with business and engineering teams to deliver impactful AI-driven innovations that improve engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, commercial, and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish AI technical direction, architecture, and best practices across enterprise initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify high-value AI opportunities and influence the overall AI strategy and technology roadmap.
- Continuously explore and prototype emerging AI techniques such as Agentic AI, Causal AI, Neuro-symbolic AI, World Models, Foundation Models, and other evolving paradigms.
- Provide expert guidance for distinguishing meaningful AI innovations from hype and translating research into practical solutions.
- Design and implement scalable AI solutions including predictive modeling, natural language processing, computer vision, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, optimization methods, and enterprise AI platforms.
- Lead production AI system development, ensuring best practices for model governance, evaluation, deployment, and Responsible AI principles.
- Mentor data science and AI engineering teams fostering innovation and technical excellence.
- Conduct architecture reviews and standardize AI engineering practices while keeping TE’s AI capability at the cutting edge.
Candidate Profile
- Educational qualifications: BE, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in AI, machine learning, or data science with proven leadership in technical roles.
- Strong track record of delivering AI solutions at enterprise scale with measurable business impact.
- Expertise in machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, optimization, and generative AI technologies.
- Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, modern AI frameworks and cloud-based AI platforms.
- Proficient in Python programming and experienced with AI/ML frameworks and MLOps or LLMOps processes.
- Keen interest in emerging AI paradigms such as agentic AI, causal reasoning, neuro-symbolic approaches, world modeling, and advanced AI reasoning architectures.
- Ability to effectively communicate cutting-edge AI technologies and their business relevance to both technical teams and executives.
- Preferred but not mandatory: publications, patents or open-source AI contributions; experience in creating enterprise AI platforms or reusable AI frameworks; background in manufacturing or industrial AI applications.
