Opportunity Overview
Lead the advancement of Agile delivery within Auckland Council, one of New Zealand's largest and most intricate organisations. This role offers a unique chance for an experienced people leader passionate about Agile delivery, coaching, and cultivating high-performing teams to head the Scrum Master practice.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Head of Delivery, you will manage and develop a team of Scrum Masters, create and enhance a Centre of Excellence for Agile practices, and collaborate closely with Agile Release Trains (ARTs), delivery leaders, and technology teams. Your leadership will be pivotal in nurturing talent, improving team capabilities, and fostering an environment that drives continuous improvement and impactful delivery for over 1.7 million Auckland residents.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and coach a Scrum Master team to achieve high performance.
- Formulate and execute the strategic vision for the Scrum Master practice.
- Promote continuous enhancement of Agile and Scrum methodologies across teams and ARTs.
- Support talent development, succession planning, and career progression within the practice.
- Collaborate with delivery leadership to allocate Scrum Master resources appropriately.
- Define, track, and analyze key performance indicators related to Agile delivery and team effectiveness.
- Encourage knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation within the practice community.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and nurturing talent development programs.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards, governance frameworks, and delivery best practices.
Required Experience and Attributes
- Extensive leadership experience in managing and growing high-performing teams.
- Strong expertise in Agile delivery, Scrum frameworks, and modern technology ecosystems.
- Proven ability to coach Scrum Masters, Agile teams, and senior delivery leaders effectively.
- Successful track record of spearheading organization-wide or practice-wide capability initiatives.
- Experience navigating complex delivery environments and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- In-depth knowledge of Scrum principles, Agile frameworks, and scaling methodologies.
- Strategic thinker with excellent planning skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Ability to influence, motivate, and mentor others to drive change.
- Strong problem-solving, conflict management, and decision-making skills.
- Committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and learning.
