Position Overview
Join our team at HMP Doncaster as a full-time Operational Support Officer working night shifts, on a 7 days on, 7 days off rota, totaling 40 hours per week. This role is critical for ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of the prison and offers essential operational assistance to frontline prison personnel. Although this is not a Prison Officer position, it involves working in a secure setting with operational responsibilities.
Key Duties
- Manage entry and exit points, including gate operations
- Control and monitor access for staff, visitors, contractors, and vehicles
- Support internal prison activities and oversee movement control
- Monitor security systems and communications channels
- Conduct searches and security checks per protocols
- Assist during night-time operations as needed
- Perform welfare checks and observation of prisoners overnight
- Maintain accurate records and generate reports
- Collaborate closely with Prison Officers and other operational teams
- Adhere strictly to security protocols to maintain a professional and safe work environment

Additional Information
This role requires flexibility to attend mandatory training, potentially on non-rostered days. It is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under UK Home Office regulations due to salary and skill requirements. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK through other immigration routes and meet eligibility conditions: at least two years remaining on their current visa and at least one year of UK residence.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Employment is contingent upon security clearance and satisfactory references. Candidates will be required to provide five years of employment and education history and obtain Ministry of Justice Enhanced Level 2 Clearance and Enhanced DBS with adult and child barring vetting, which also requires a five-year verifiable history.
